As 2024 approached and the year ended, I wanted to rearrange my furniture. I needed space and change. It was visceral. I rent my current home, so my only change option is to move the furniture. As a Feng Shui Practitioner, balance, harmony, and flow are essential. I have adjusted to this rental’s downsizing, but something still needed to shift.
My dining area has always felt small. The light fixture was swagged to the left, putting the table off-center. I have tried the table in various ways, with the leaves in and out. It always felt cramped. I didn’t see the solution until recently, which was so simple. The solution was to remove the swag, turn the table, and center it under the light and on the sliding glass door. Now, there is a flow around the table. I did have to place the armchairs next to each other and not opposite each other in the customary position.
This small change made a big difference. Sometimes, seeing another way is challenging when a “solution” is already in place. I figured there was a reason for the light fixture adjustment. In making this shift, I now have room at my table for others to join me for dinner. My house plants don’t seem crammed into the corner of the room with the best light.
Taking this metaphor of turning the table for 2024, what am I inviting into my life by turning the table? As I previously said, there is room at my table. Will I be entertaining more? Will there be more family dinners? Board or card games with friends? What I have done with this simple shift is make space for something. Other questions come to mind with this metaphor. Do I need to see something from a different perspective? Are there other areas of my life that I need to center the light?
Think of that phrase, “center the light.” What comes to mind for you? Because I did this shift of the dining room, the word I chose for 2024 was illumination. What is coming to light? Where can I bring light? This one slight shift changed more than I expected. Making a simple change is the beauty of Feng Shui. It is an energy practice. It is more than cleaning the clutter or arranging furniture.
I continue to work with various energy practices for myself and my clients. Feng Shui has been an excellent energy teacher. It guides me through a space’s energy flow, and my other practices, like Reiki, help balance my mind, body, and spirit. Energy practices like Feng Shui and Reiki aren’t one-and-done solutions. They are ever-evolving teachers who provide support and direction for living. I am my number one Reiki and Feng Shui client. I have to live by following the energy.
How will you turn the tables for 2024? Is there an area of your environment that needs the flow to be improved? Are you willing to see the metaphor that your living space offers? How may I assist you in assessing your space with Feng Shui and Reiki? I am offering classes in 2024 on both energy practices and am available for private consultation and coaching. Please visit the class page for more information.
Blessings on 2024.
